My Studio
The Studio is situated in a gorgeous little barn at Glendon Farm Complex/Lodge, Rushton Road, Kettering, NN14 1QF. Just off the A43 toward Corby. There’s plenty of parking in front of the studio, a beauty studio (https://www.kolainebeautylounge.com) is next door and is available to pre-book in make-up or any other treatments for just before (or after if not for the session). A scrumptious cafe ‘The Fox and Peony’ is literally around the corner and to top it all off there’s a beautiful countryside walk to take with your family if you wish to after the session.
If you would like hair and make-up organising for you, please let me know. It’s usually around £25 for hair curled or styled and £35 for make-up. This would need to be organised at least 2-3 weeks in advance.
Studio Temperature
I warm up the barn as best I can before you arrive to around 20 degrees, however if you feel the cold on your toes you are welcome to bring cosy slippers. I would ask that outdoor shoes are removed and indoor shoes are brought with you instead if you prefer that. The reason for this is the bit outside the door brings in a bit of pebble dust.
The session
I don’t tend to start shooting straight away and prefer to get to know you over a quick cuppa if we have time. Perhaps we need to decide what you are wearing first if you brought a change of clothes. I’ve been in front of the camera so I understand how daunting this is so I prefer you feel relaxed and we can sit in my lounge area to chat. I would then decide how we will start the session depending on your preference for the final look/image. It helps to know what type of styles you like in your home as to which backdrops and type of image I create for you.
Some families who have darker walls or room would like a bright white background so that the images stand out more. It might also be that you have a colour scheme that the background will match to. Others keep it simple to white or grey for something more classic that works well with simple frames. Some families have a home that lends itself well to fine art style images with strong colours and opulent frames. You can let me know your preferences in advance.
I will try both relaxed and posed images so that you have a selection to choose from. Often people say they would prefer relaxed not looking at the camera images but still pick some images where they are. I believe you may not know what you like until you see it. I try to capture the natural you, but also the portrait of you that both you, family and friends will see likeliness and that you will all love.
If you have any special cultural items and or objects, blankets, throws even props that have a special meaning to the family please bring them to try and include. I am open to your suggestions too.
Siblings /family images
I aim to capture these images first so that everyone relaxes together and not one person is in the spotlight straight away!
What to bring/clothing
Simple outfits work best. Please avoid patterns and logos if you can. When being photographed as a family it’s good to try to keep to the same tones, so that not one person is in white and the other black and or one is in bright and the other in pastel. If they are the same tones it works perfectly. You can bring a couple of outfits if you are unsure.
You can lay out the outfits on a bed to match them or if you live in separate households send pictures of your outfit preference so everyone can look at similar colours or tones. The colours that tend to clash the worst are pink and red! I am more than happy to advise if needed.
There is is also this link to my Pinterest page with some inspiration as a guide:
After the session
It can take me around two weeks to edit your images unless we discuss any deadlines needed for special occasion. I pay particular attention to finer details, so if there is anything at all which you would like me to correct in photoshop or if you prefer no photoshopping please let me know before I begin editing.
I will book in another date for you to view the images (sometimes via an online gallery depending on time and image packages). If you would like any frames or wall art collections these will be displayed in the studio and prices can be viewed on my investment page in advance.
The chosen products are then ordered and delivered to you within 5 weeks. Any digital images purchased within the collection will be sent to you for download the same or next day. The USB is delivered with the prints and products.
I hope the information above is useful. You are welcome to contact me at anytime with further questions or to discuss your requirements.
I very much look forward to welcoming you into my studio and making some very special memories into beautiful pieces of art for
your home.
